Siphonage in drainage systems occurs when pressure fluctuations within sanitary pipework remove water seals from traps, allowing foul air and odours to enter the building environment. Understanding how pressure behaves within drainage systems is essential when investigating drainage defects, recurring odour complaints, and ventilation-related failures.
This training module explores the principles of self-siphonage, induced siphonage, and pressure transients within above-ground drainage systems. The role of trap seals, stack ventilation, branch connections, and air movement within sanitary pipework is examined alongside common installation and design defects.
